A university registered and licensed in Hutt River Province
Principality, Australasia
ABOUT
CoMet - University of Contemporary Metaphysics
The University of Contemporary Metaphysics is a non-denominational, global, metaphysical university offering Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees at affordable rates of tuition fee for those studying metaphysical spirituality.
Due to the fact that various universities and institutes around the world have the initials UCM, the University of Contemporary Metaphysics has instead chosen the abbreviation CoMet as its short or familiar form.
CoMet courses include overviews of world religions, history of religion and religious ideas, Western esoteric traditions, contemporary New Age and New Thought spirituality, interfaith studies, parapsychological and psychic studies, liberal-minded Biblical studies, and studies of holistic philosophy, holistic ethics and environmental topics, plus topics such as counselling skills and awareness of basic psychology which are important to all who are helping others. There is no attempt to make students conform to one particular philosophy or set of teachings: instead students are encouraged to develop their own personal spirituality.
University Licence
The University is registered in Hutt River Province Principality, Australasia as University of Contemporary Metaphysics Ltd. (registered company number 1226) and holds a UNIVERSITY LICENCE from Hutt River. The official legal address of the University is in Hutt River, Australasia and there is also a representative office in Vanuatu, South Pacific.
The University is supported by Calamus International University, founded in 2001, which provides external moderation of University of Contemporary Metaphysics degrees, and also allows it to use certain course materials under license. However, CoMet is a separate legal entity with its own permission to award degrees and its degrees will be issued by University of Contemporary Metaphysics.
CoMet, like various other distance institutions, does not have a physical campus but operates through the Internet and through its network of faculty and associates. In this way we can avoid the high cost of administration and keep fees as low as possible.
Academic matters for all locations are co-ordinated in the UK by MassivePractice.com, a practice management information service for complementary therapists and counsellors which is also CoMet's appointed agent and point of student liaison. [MassivePractice.com is launching its own new website]
Images of the University's licence and registration will be displayed on this site.
Alternative university degrees
CoMet degrees are alternative university degrees and are not UK, US, EU or Australian degrees. CoMet qualifications are aimed at those who are self-employed as spiritual counsellors, therapists, ministers, healers, mediums, channelers, psychic consultants, workshop leaders, and trainers as well as those who wish to study for personal interest and satisfaction and independent researchers in spiritual fields.
Whether or not a CoMet degree will be accepted for any particular purpose will differ according to the circumstances: the same applies to most distance degrees, even those from fully accredited universites. It is the student's responsibility to check with any particular employer, college, authority, etc. whether the degree will be acceptable if used for a specific purpose. It is known that government and mainstream university employers may be especially selective about which degrees they will accept, and people seeking such careers are advised to pursue mainstream campus education at well-known universities for best prospects.
About our jurisdiction
The Hutt River Principality, formerly Hutt River Province, has been a self-proclaimed independent sovereign state in Western Australia since 1970 - a state which is older than certain other independent nations and territories. Although the Australian government does not officially recognise HRP as a separate state, it has avoided legal challenges with HRP. The Principality has, over the years, enacted its own laws and allows company registrations, providing licences for various activities including higher education. HRP is a firm supporter of independent distance learning initiatives and the Head of State, Prince Leonard (Leonard George Casley) has a keen interest in metaphysics. A number of international distance learning universities chose to register in the Principality.
Further information about Hutt River, including university licences, can be found on the official Registrar's website which is at www.huttriverprovince.biz

To avoid misunderstanding, please note that University of Contemporary Metaphysics is not regarded as an Australian university, because it has no authority from the government of Australia. Therefore we point out that it is registered in Australasia.
Australian residents who are considering our courses are welcome to ask us for advice. Because of the political situation vis-a-vis Australia and HRP, it is not advisable for Australian residents to apply for HRP awards, but we might be able to help by arranging an alternative form of award for Australian students that does not involve HRP.
